Story: I love making a stylish handbag that is also
functional. I love the design and textures of fine fabrics. I have created a
line of bags and have launched a website this year. I mostly use home decor
fabric but have also used some embroidered silks. I like to use silk dupioni as
a lining but depending on the weight and use of the bag I may choose something
like a crepe that is a little bit heavier. I also love the sleek look of piping
as an accent trim, very classic without being fussy.
I made a handbag for myself and it got rave reviews. I was urged to try making
and selling handbags. I get a sense of satisfaction when I can provide an
excellent quality product and put a smile on someone's face in the process. I
like the inside of the handbag to be just as pretty as the outside so I use the
fabric from the shell of the bag for the pockets which brings the outside fabric
in tying the outside and inside design together for one really stylish handbag.
Sometimes attaching handles can get tricky. Especially when the outside design
of the fabric calls for the stitching to be exactly along a line that is part of
the design like a plaid. Then you must resort to hand-basting turning the fabric
one way and then the other so that so that you can then machine stitch exactly
on that line to get the look you want.
I guess I would have to say getting the website launched and running has made it
all worth it. I had no idea where to start and what would need to be done in
order to launch an ecommerce business, or how much it would cost. It was only me
and a shoestring budget. Which if I had stopped to analyze the whole thing
probably would have scared me into not doing it. But I'm proud that I gathered
resources, found who could help, and didn't let anyone rain on my parade so that
I accomplished what I set out to do. Now the goal is to maintain the site and
drive people to it to see my lovely creations. Women of all ages will love these
handbags.
