| I love what is unusual but useful and that's what I am
always striving to create... useful art. I am currently focusing on painting and
bag construction integrity. I want a consistent look with my clutches and
sometimes being an artist, it's hard to stay consistent to any one thing so the
paintings have to be what changes constantly. I primarily use denim for
all of my painted clutches. If can take a beating, hold up to layers of paint
and it's very urban. I love adding chain for straps or painting bricks for a
real city feel. I don't make country bags, it's not that I don't like them it's
just I don't think the face of the city is always looked at from all points of
view... the concrete can be pretty.
My line got started in the best way possible. I left my full-time beauty
shop business to come home after recently being married. My new husband saw my
handbag collection as an obsession and declared," I AM NOT SUPPORTING YOUR
HANDBAG HABIT!!" Well, after a good laugh, I thought about how I could get my
fix but make something unique. My 1st 10 bags flew off my work tables so fast
that I knew I was onto something. I combined my skills of being a Natural
Haircare Stylist to painted faces and the 'Fufulinda' was created.
My original Fufulinda handbag line consisted solely of hand-painted faces with
synthetic hair, eyelashes and jewelry. Unfortunately, they would get ruined
quickly if used too often. I had to make a change so I began to research
abstract, art deco and portrait style painting then changed over.
Now my 3D face art is only for wall art. Honestly, the only design
nightmare I can really remember is when I asked my husband (who by the way is a
wood artist) for his input on a new design concept. Though his idea was really
good, there was no way I could replica it for practical use. We decided not to
do that again. However, my greatest achievement was that I was able to
take some of his points though and apply them to my designs so that they would
not be lost forever.
