Story: I am currently an AAS degree student at Parsons School
for Design. My major is in Fashion studies. However, I have had a keen interest
and passion in handbag designing and took a course in 2005 at the School of
fashion design Newbury St. Boston. I have so many ideas in handbag designing and
aspire to build up my own line in the near future that will be an extension of a
fashion design line. However, I am open to freelance and other opportunities. I
am currently looking to sell my line in boutiques or stores.
The major materials used for my bags range from African inspired prints to
unique fabrics. I work mostly with fabrics but I am open to using leather and
hardware materials if need be. My target audience is the 18 - 34 year old
bracket. Who are looking for a variety of chic silhouettes that want a bag that
will either match their clothes as I can do custom made bags or that want an
every day bag.
My line got started after I did my course in handbag design and created
samples that a lot of people admired. Its simplicity yet sophistication. Also
the use of fabrics and detailing by using shearing and pockets etc that you will
find on a garment onto the bags.
My most recent nightmare took place when I was in the process of sending my
samples to a reputable company, the buyer had contacted me at the last minute to
say they were interested in a sample that they were previously not interested
with. However the sample had already been sent off to another buyer so I was in
a tight corner. However in the end I had to inform her of what happened and she
was willing to wait for the sample. So I learnt I my lesson to have at least
more than one sample at any given time. However, the greatest achievement
I am gaining from my handbag making is self satisfaction and fulfillment which I
think is necessary to find with something in this life....
