Chicks and Girlies is still a very young company, however I think I started creating and designing before I was off my training wheels! Starting with clothing and very quickly moved on to houses. Since I was only 7 or 8 at the time I can't imagine they would have stayed standing, but even then it was the creative process of designing that kept me going searching for the perfect medium to design. It began one day I went to one of those home purse parties and I thought, I bet I could do that... and so I did and "chicks and girlies" was born. This was two years ago. Then life happened and it was put on hold. Until this December. At that time I decided to make one handbag for myself as I missed it. When I was finished I put a picture on my Facebook page and within an hour I had sold it. So I kept on sewing. Then two weeks ago I added a group on Facebook and the response is mind shattering. I am amazed and excited and so looking forward to what the future will hold!

Growing up my mother has a leather handbag company and I grew up surrounded by the smell and feel of leather. My choice of materials was a simple one as I had long ago fallen in love with leather. As for target audience, my husband says I am a people pleaser, and so because of this it is my hope there is something for everyone in my handbag collection.

All of my bags (so far) have been one of a kind. I have not even copied the same style in another color. I Have never made a pattern, I cut the pieces as I need them and I have never cut the pieces for a whole purse before I start sewing. My bags literally build themselves from the images in my head. It's a wonderfully exciting process even for me! I feel as though I am brimming with ideas just waiting to get out! Most of the time my designs flow very easily from my mind to the leather but on occasion something goes wrong. Because I don't pre measure pieces to be sure they all fit together as I imagine them to, on occasion it leads to a mini melt down, tears and all! This is when my three daughters ( 8 year old triplets) think I have lost my mind, as I start talking out loud trying to think of solutions to this seemingly earth shattering problem!

Chicks and girlies has only just started and is still a very young company, so I think my greatest accomplishments thus far has been making people happy. Seeing the excitement in their eyes and on their faces when they have one of my bags in their hands is a great feeling and is enough to keep me creating and designing for many years to come.
