| I did two years in fashion designing in Dubai after
completing BBA. I then took on to painting abstract art on huge canvases,
participating in various locally held art exhibitions. The knack of painting and
art has been my childhood hobby, and passion. While operating as an artist a
business idea came to my mind and I started planning to make it real. With my
family's support I opened my boutique in Dubai after 1 year of planning and
preparation, I design handbags and shoes which I get manufactured in china. I
also design unique party clutches which are handmade by me completely. You can
see a lot of influence of Dubai's culture and lifestyle on my bags, I follow
abstract patterns mixed with a lot of gold foiling and wire work on my clutches,
my handbags are always a mix of two or three colors inspired by crystal shine,
gold and abstract designs.
It has been 2 and half years since I am running my boutique, have learnt and
experienced a lot about peoples tastes and have won a lot of fans and permanent
clientele from Abu Dhabi, England, Australia and US who always come back to me
for my unique pieces whenever they visit Dubai. I use leather, polyester mesh,
canvas, bamboo, fabrics and stones gold foils and copper wires as well as
Sworovski stones on my clutches. What makes them unique is I collect unique
decorative pieces whenever I travel around or even from a local store in Dubai.
for example a coaster that was made of mother of pearl effect caught my eye and
I bought it and stitched it onto a mesh polyester table mat and turned it into a
clutch. sometimes I collect attractive perfume caps and use them like a buckle
or centre piece in a clutch and the paint around it taking idea from the texture
of the perfume cap. The copper wire I use to stitch hardware on to my clutches
is extracted from waste used electrical wires that are thrown away, again that
helps me recycle and be responsible environmentally. My target audience is
everyone from around the world, some times it is an 8 year old boy who came to
me and bought my clutch for his mother for Mother's Day, and at other times it
is women of all ages who look for something unique that only they own alone, and
their husbands or brothers or fathers who want to gift something unique to their
loved ones.
It was all support and encouragement from my family and my father who noticed
my talent and ability to turn it into a business. he has been a business man all
his life successfully running for business. He had the confidence and believed
that I can turn my creativity into business. It all started with my boutique and
how after that the encouraging response from my clients who asked my to make one
of a kind piece for them and they bought it happily, it kicked of very well
since then I started doing my handmade clutches. Each of my clutches that I hand
make are just one of a kind, I never repeat a design or neither can I make two
of the same kind. It would be the only piece made in the world by my hand.
I was halfway through making my clutch and as I paint it with an intricate
pattern. I was visited by a client and I started attending to her while my
clutch was lying done half way with other paint material and thinner to dilute
the paints). When I was done with my client I went back to continue with my
clutch and realized by some mistake the thinner bottle was left open and had
spilled over my clutch diluting and rubbing off all the design I had painted on,
I was shammed and I thought I lost a beautiful piece I was about to create, as I
began to clean the surface of the clutch I realized the design was getting
rubbed off but an abstract kind of color effect was created with the mixing of
thinner and paint which looked kind of cool, I continued to clean wipe it and I
had a whole new abstract paint effect on my clutch, which I finally completed
adorning with some Swarovski stones and wood chips and was a hit.
My best achievement is when I get a repeat client, which are many in number by
now. Besides that I have been featured in a local magazine as a young designer
successfully doing business. I also have many loyal clients from the sheikh
families of Dubai who love to own my piece of creation. above all when I go
through the comments made by my clients in my guest book it makes my day.
