| I studied architecture before following my heart into
the fashion industry and gaining a distinction for MA fashion Artefact at London
College of Fashion. I have loved designing since I was quite young and remember
designing collection while watching The Clothes Show when I was about 7. My
Master allowed me to develop my own label with my first collection for A/W 10. I
am currently working on my S/S 11 Collection.
I like the challenge the way that we use materials and how we view material
properties, for my A/W10 I have used hand drawings on leather and electroformed
plastics. The production of my collection involved a lot of research and
development into new material techniques, many of the pieces within the
collection also contain handmade elements, hand drawings and hand spun and
crocheted human hair yarn. My collection is aimed at a luxury market, due to the
quality of materials used and the nature of their production.
Having worked in design for five years, the decision to study for a masters at
London College of Fashion, allowed me to develop as a designer and gave me the
opportunity to produce my debut collection under my own label. Each season
I am inspired by something new, each collection developing aesthetic of my
label. My A/W 10 Collection, 'The Aesthetics of Loss' focuses on the place of
material objects in the mourning of loss, referencing mourning processes within
other cultures and through European history. I created aesthetic objects for the
collection which embody particular memories and stories; a consolation for loss,
yet a physical link to an individual’s character and life
My process of designing and product development can lead to a lot of design
nightmares, trying to use materials in new ways and to push the boundaries of
commonly used materials throws up a lot of problems and headaches.
However,
My A/W 10 Collection was shown at the V&A Museum, London. It was great to see my
work on the catwalk and also to have feedback from industry professionals and to
receive positive feedback in the press.
