• Manage development of product line, moving products from concept to technical design
• Provide design direction to sample room and vendors: prepare sample requests, review, critique, test, and approve submitted samples.

• Track approval of sample room and factory prototypes, photo samples, and test samples
• Manage costing development with vendors and overseas office throughout design process.

• Collaborate with Technical Design to maintain adherence to products and fabrics standards

• Assist Production in sourcing alternatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

I attended Otis in the Fashion departments first. While studying fashion, I got experience working with the professional designers for swimwear, woman sportswear, evening grown and menswear. I had an experiences with fashion design, illustration, fabrics, garment construction, sewing,technical drawing, measuring, fitting and running a fashion show from the back stage to the front. Later, I transferred to Product Design department- it was about creative conceptual design, marketing, user experience and interfaces design by presenting the idea with professional boards, power points and 3D models. A quick-witted and creative approach to all aspects of the job will be welcomed.
Having graduated or majoring in Business Administration, Marketing, PR or a related degree is a plus. High interest and motivation for the fashion and/or eco industry is a must.

Have anyone gone through the agony of finding a sales representative to carry their line?
Some sales reps would not accept any new merchandise that they did not hear of or not sold through department stores & chain stores.
Others have limited space in their showroom and would not want to add in any more new lines. Most are just not looking or already have a line of a similar product and don't want to compete with their current line.
Do you know how much it costs to attend a regular tradeshow for just a couple days? Besides hotel, airflight, food, buying samples, not to mention wiring money to overseas just to buy the minimum ordered quantities, etc... It's big bucks and extremely difficult for start-up companies and designers. The risks involved cannot be measured.
So, what now? Trying to sell your products on-line through ebay, yahoo, or other web hosting channels? I believe that most people would agree that this would not work.
In the fashion industry, it is extremely difficult because most companies or customers would only buy your product if it is widely known and sold and/or used by celebrities.
What options are there? Has anyone thought of sharing a permanent showroom space? or Joint tradeshows? I believe this is one of the best way to promote your new line if there are no other possibilities.

Marketing and Business Support for Emerging Designers
GIDC is ready to launch our “Showroom New York” in conjunction with its Designer
Development program. The goal of the program is to develop the business and
marketing skills of emerging designers, to increase profitable sales of their
products to retail buyers, and to find local factory partners for production.
• Showroom NY will be located at 202 W 40th St on the 9th Floor. It will
uniquely feature emerging designers who produce in New York, many of whom have a
difficult time when starting out finding professional, reasonably-priced sales
representation.
• A selected group of 8-12 “Exhibitors” will be provided a home to solicit and
facilitate market week appointments. Our Showroom Manager will provide
merchandising and logistics advice, and help with sales presentations on behalf
of these exhibitors.
• Exhibiting designers will be selected 1 or 2 times per year by an advisory
jury, who we hope will be available to informally “mentor” these emerging
talents. In addition, GIDC will also provide hands-on consulting and industry
referrals in any and all areas needed to develop and grow these businesses.
• A large pool of “Associate” designers will be able to use the trend and
sourcing resources we plan to provide and may reserve space (when possible) to
conduct meetings with buyers. The majority of these designers will be in the
beginning stages of forming their businesses and will pay a modest yearly
membership fee.
By providing a professional location for emerging designers to present their
products, meet buyers and vendors, and gain exposure to the greater industry,
their orders will become more viable, consistent, and a new source of business
for our New York factories.
Showroom New York - Application Submission Prerequisites
• Designers will submit a proposal on why they should be considered for the
showroom New York
• Designers must be working with local contractors
• Designers cannot be represented by another multi line showroom or reps.
• Product Requirements – previous or current season samples or sketches and
detailed storyboards (with fabrics, colors, prints etc.)
• Designers must submit Designer Bios, Press Clippings and other relevant
background information
• Designers must be prepared for Fall ‘08 Season with selling samples and all
pertinent sales collateral by January ‘08
• Designers are required to submit draft or final business plan
• Designers are required to submit 3 business references, they will be verified
Showroom Fees
GIDC has funding to run this program for 2 years and in order to achieve a level
of sustainability that will keep our Showroom NY open for years to come, we
kindly request that Designers pay a $250/month Rack Fee for inclusion into
program and additionally, a 5% commission on all sales.
