With the application process now open, the 2009 IHDA is shaping up to be the best one yet.

We have been extraordinarily fortunate thus far; the addition of the Best Use of CRYSTALLIZED(™) - Swarovski Elements category, Singer Sewing Company sponsoring the Best Handmade Handbag, the Capsule Collection collaboration with Foot Petals and more, much more to come. However, we are pleased to announce though that Devi Kroell will be sponsoring the Best Student Made Handbag category. The winner will receive a prestigious apprenticeship working with Devi, herself. If you weren't already aware, that is the equivalent of winning a Golden Globe in your first film.

In a short time, Devi Kroell has become ubiquitous in the press and the reasons behind are quite obvious to those in the know. She is very, very talented. Kroell grew up all over the world as diplomat offspring where her inspiration is currently drawn. Her exposure to Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Israel, France, and Italy has impacted her work and it clearly shows. Now based in New York, Kroell has now become a staple in the market of luxe handbags made of exotic and metallic leathers and skins.

Launched in 2004, her bags hit the ground running and soon were featured in every high-end glossy imaginable from coast to cast. By 2006, Kroell won the CFDA Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Accessory Design and opened her first store in East Hampton. In 2007, she designed a collection for Target and expanded to footwear and this year, apparel.
