Sewing, Embroidery and Beading
CRYSTALLIZED ™- Swarovski Elements can be sewn on by hand, as well as
by an industrial or household sewing machine. On leather a whole range of
different effects can be achieved using different types of stitches, threads and
ribbons. When sewing crystals onto leather, it is essential that materials and
tools are adapted to the leather in use. A beautiful example for sewing,
embroidery and beading of crystal elements is shown in picture 1.
Mechanical Application
CRYSTALLIZED ™- Swarovski Elements can easily be applied onto leather
by the usage of presses, e.g. screw presses, and with the help of corresponding
tools. As certain tanning agents may cause the tarnishing of metal components,
Swarovski offers Stainless Steel Rivets which have been especially developed for
the application on leather. Picture 2 provides an example of Stainless Steel
Rivets applied onto leather.
Application Innovations: Chaton Leather and Flat Back Leather
Because of the sensitive and treated surface, smooth leather is not the ideal
carrier material for a standard Hotfix application. Swarovski has however
developed and patent-protected two special techniques that allow XILION, Pearl
and Diamond Transfers to be applied onto smooth leather. Both techniques require
a high level of application know-how and are exclusively offered by Swarovski or
Certified Application Centers. Inspirational examples of Chaton and Flat Black
Leather applications on smooth leather are shown in pictures above.
