What country are your bags manufactured?
The bags are handmade in Brazil.
Please explain how your bags are socially responsible?
We were able to have housewives unable to find a full time job, especially single mothers, and also young girls who used to spent most of their free time on the streets, get interested in learning a new craft, receive encouragement, love and feel part of a big family. For example, we have one artisan who used to suffer of depression; another one was grieving the loss of her son, both of whom had gotten involved in the traffic. Every since they started to work with us, one quit taking pills and both are doing much better. They are dedicated artisans who appreciate this new life opportunity and how this new skill has changed their life. We intend to develop partnerships with daycare centers so that mothers can leave their children and have more time to devote to their work. Moreover, we also plan on creating rehabilitation, reintegration programs as well as extend the work to other communities throughout the country, develop workshops to teach, promote this eco-friendly, sustainable and socially-responsible craft.
Do you work with local/native artisans to design your bags?
Yes, all the products are developed by the local artisans.
Why did you choose this country to have your bags made and what made you decided to give back?
I live in this country and I want to be able to extend my hand to help, just as I had someone assisting me, teaching the craft.
How have your bags impacted this community?
Learning this new skill, helps in increasing the income of entire families, stimulates self esteem, promotes participation in the creative process, allowing them to actively contribute to the economy. It also raises the importance of sustainability, the awareness of the importance recycling, as well as manufacturing cruelty free accessories.
