What inspired your sketch?
I wanted to design an Instax camera bag because I am an avid polaroid user, I have the instax mini 8 and use it all the time. As a designer, I also love to design bags specifically for functionality and making it look stylish versus like gear. I thought a camera bag was a great challenge.
Why did you select this look for your design?
I work with leather and structured fibers like canvas or tarp
What is your design background?
I do design my own handbags and the instax design fits in well with my design aesthetic because I enjoy bags that are simple but reference classic vintage shapes.
Do you currently design your own handbags? If so, would your Instax design fit into the collection?
I am a fashion major who is graduating from Parsons the New School for Design and specializing in accessories design. I come from a fine arts background.
What materials do you like to work with?
I selected this look because it references the hexagon shape which I feel is very unique for a camera bag, it makes it more stylish and less expected as a functioning camera bag. I picked vintage/ nostalgic warm colors because I think the concept of a polaroid is embodied in sentiments and nostalgia. I also took references from tie-together albums and the shape of the film.
Why did you want to design this Instax camera bag?
The memories one can capture with a film camera inspired this sketch. I wanted it to be really soft and reminiscent through the colors, almost romantic to capture the mood of a polaroid. I was inspired by the hexagon as the instax itself looked like a really rounded hexagon. I personally store my polaroids in this lavender, flower-pressed tie-knot album so that inspired the closure (the knot closure) and the pocket in the front is a reference to the polaroid film itself.
